I had my first infusion of Pembrolizumab (Keytruda) in Chilworth Ward at the Royal Surrey Cancer Centre (RSCC) on Monday. It was my first visit to the busy ward, after booking in at reception I was allocated bay 3 where there are 10 chairs, 9 off which were taken. I had height and weight measured and a cannula was fitted on my right hand.
Saline was put through the cannula the the Pembrolizumab was connected. The dose was 400mg in 116mL and it took 30 minutes to administer. The line was then flushed through with some more saline. In total the visit took 40 minutes.
l was given a small pack of goodies as it was my first infusion, greatfully received.
I was also given my next appointment in 6 weeks time along witha new blood test request form. Its important to have the blood test a week before the next infusion. I was offered a visit to Chilworth Ward but decided to make use of the NHS mobile unit based in the car park at my local Tesco store.

I've been given a lot of information about the possible side effects of the treatment but so far, 4 days post infusion, I havent noticed anything out of the ordinary. Its quite possible that side effects may not kick in until after the 2nd & 3rd infusion.
Thats all for now.
I'll post updates in the furture.
